This job will help Siemens to speed up bringing its software portfolio to the cloud across domains and businesses. You will constantly face different challenges in different environments – so we require someone who not only possesses the technical skills but also a willingness to never stop learning!

At the core of Siemens’ business are complex software-intensive systems. Siemens power plants, factory automation, building automation, power grid control, and others depend on the flawless operation of software… in other words, high-quality software is essential for the success of our businesses. Software architects helps Siemens business units world-wide to translate new business ideas into software solutions and successful products. To deliver our products and services faster and more flexibly to our customers, we are pushing for rapid transformation of the legacy parts of our software portfolio towards SaaS solutions. In Siemens Technology, we are also never satisfied with the state of the art, but look out for new trends and technologies that help Siemens reach its goals.

The Challenge:

  • Guide Siemens Business Units to build reliable, performant, scalable, and maintainable systems on modern software architectures that best match business requirements
  • Evaluate solution alternatives that involve different architectures, design patterns, and frameworks
  • Lead the transformation from on-premise monoliths towards cloud-based SaaS solutions
  • Advise how to modernize and modularize legacy software, and how to structure development processes to speed up software deliveries
  • Participate in software architecture reviews and work with business units to improve their software architecture.
  • Scout state-of-the-art software engineering methods, tools and trends and apply them to customer challenges
  • Identify high-impact research topics in complex systems architectures
  • Perform research, development and consulting projects collaborating with colleagues, customers and universities.

The Candidate:

Qualified candidates will have:

  • MS in Computer Science or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Deep theoretical knowledge and extensive practical experience in systematic software engineering and software architecture
  • Experience in evaluating and improving the performance, scalability, reliability, and robustness of big industrial-grade software systems
  • Practical experience working in and establishing agile development processes (Scrum, SAFe, …)
  • Experience building and maintaining DevOps pipelines
  • Strong, hands-on experience in designing cloud-native systems (in, e.g., AWS, Azure, …) and designing communication in systems spanning levels from the cloud down to small IoT devices.
  • Excellent communication skills and technical leadership.
  • Strong, hands-on coding experience for both compiled (e.g., C++, C#, Java) as well as scripting languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript)
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences is a plus.
